Layer your Clothes
Since you’re likely to experience varying temperatures during your journey, it is always best to wear layers that you can take off when needed. A light jacket, that doesn’t crease, is better than a heavier one, but it is usually better to skip the jacket and just layer up on your shirts, bringing along a warm piece of knitwear. A pashmina scarf works well as it can keep you warm on the plane, can be used as a blanket, and even a sarong if you’re going to the beach.

Loose Fitting Clothes
It is never comfortable to be sat in something constricting for a long period of time, so choose clothes that are loose fitting and flexible. Jeans can often be quite tight and stiff, so, if you are wanting to wear jeans, choose a looser pair, or one that has some spandex woven in. Girls should avoid wearing short skirts and shorts. Airplane seats can often be a hotbed for germs and bacteria, so it is best to avoid letting your skin come into too much direct contact with the seat.

Simple Footwear
Since you will be wanting to get through security as quickly as possible, the best footwear to wear to the airport would be ballet flats or boat shoes. Boots are great for keeping you warm, but usually need to be taken off at security, and can become cumbersome on the plane. Make sure you don’t wear anything that is too tight, as this increases your risk for deep vein thrombosis, especially on a longer flight. Avoid flip flops or sandals, as your feet can easily get cold on a flight, and bring along an extra pair of socks.

Minimal Jewelry
Since metal jewelry has to be removed at security, it is best to wear minimal jewelry when flying, to keep you from holding up the line and possibly getting taken in for a full search. Belts and wallet chains should also be avoided, and can be packed into your luggage so that you can still wear them when you reach your destination.

When it comes to colors, wearing black is not only an easy way to make your outfit look classier, but it also is the best color for hiding any stains. You should also keep in mind where you’re travelling to, as some destinations may need you to be dressed more modestly. Once you have managed to figure out which outfit works best for you at the airport, make sure you don’t forget it, as you will be able to use that look for all flights you take in the future!
