Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone

Lent is all about taking the necessary steps to improve your life and become a better person, and one of the best ways in which to do this is by pushing past your comfort zone and taking a few new risks in life. What is a Comfort Zone?
Your comfort zone is basically a behavioral space in which your activities fit into a certain routine or pattern that minimizes stress and risk. Not only does this provide mental security, but it also leads to regular happiness and lower levels of anxiety. While this may be the case, pushing past your comfort zone on occasion can really bring about some incredible results, from boosting productivity to harnessing your creativity, making it worth putting some conscious effort into expanding your horizons.

Take Small Risks with Everyday Tasks
The best way to begin pushing your boundaries is by taking small risks with everyday tasks that you do. This could be anything from taking a new route to work in the mornings, to cutting out meat from your diet for a couple of weeks. While these may seem like extremely small changes, they are easy to implement will still have the effect of providing you with a new perspective on your everyday life.

Making Decisions
Each time you make a decision, no matter how many options you may have, there will always be one choice that is the riskiest and uncomfortable, as well as one that is the safest. While you may immediately be drawn to the safest choice, as this lies within your comfort zone, it is likely to be the most uncomfortable option that really helps you to grow as a person. The next time you are making a decision, slow down and really consider each of your options before choosing one, rather than just instinctively opting for the choice that you are most comfortable with.

Tomorrow is a New Day
There is no denying the fact that taking risks in life can often seem quite scary, especially if they do not go as planned. However, you need to be able to pick yourself up from this and remember that tomorrow is a brand new day in which you will be able to implement all that you have learned today, giving you a greater chance of success in the future.

There are so many different ways in which to push past your comfort zone, and even if all of the experiences that come from this are not positive, you will still be learning something new about yourself with each step that you take. Whether you make an effort to travel to new places more, volunteer with a worthy cause, or simply learn a new language or a musical instrument, pushing your own personal boundaries may seem like a challenge at first, but, the more that you do this, the easier it will be to do in the future.

Find a Hobby You’re Passionate About

Studies have shown that having a hobby is most definitely good for you, bringing about many health benefits while encouraging creativity and cultivating new skills. So if you don’t yet have a hobby that you love, now is the time to find one!

Think Back to Your Childhood
Childhood is a time in our lives when we are extremely open to new experiences, and you likely tried a variety of different activities. Think back to those, as some of those things that fascinated you as a child is just as likely to interest you again, but in a new way, as an adult. Whether you used to enjoy adventuring around the woods collecting insects or sewing tiny dresses for your dolls, your childhood interests could very well point the way to a new passion.

A Solo Hobby or a Social Hobby?
Generally, a hobby is usually either solo or social, meaning that it is either something that you do on your own, or something that you do with others. If you are looking for a hobby that will allow you to escape from the world for a while, then you should seek out solo hobbies, whereas if you want to meet like-minded people, then a social hobby would suit you best.

Find a Hobby That Fits Your Personality
Your best chance of finding a hobby that you can really be passionate about is if you try things that fit your personality. For example, if you are an active person, then a sedentary hobby is likely to bore you quite quickly. If you are quite an impatient person, it would be a better idea to look at quick projects rather than long-term ones.

What Catches Your Interest?
When trying to find a new passion, think about the things that already interest you, and things that you already enjoy doing. If trying new dishes at restaurants is something you love to do, you may enjoy recreating these at home and teaching yourself new cooking techniques. If there is a certain painting or image you see that catches your eye, use this inspiration and pick up a paintbrush or a camera.

Ask Your Friends
You may be quite surprised to discover that your friends have hobbies that you never knew about, and you will only find out by asking. Trying a new hobby with a friend will always make the experience more enjoyable as well, and your friend is likely to be able to offer you plenty of advice, as well as share materials.

The most important thing to remember when you are trying to find a new hobby is that you need to keep trying new things. Carve out a small portion of your day or week and dedicate this to discovering your new passion. The beauty of a hobby is that you can start and stop at anytime, and it is perfectly fine to try a new activity for a while before moving on to something else, as there are an endless number of hobbies that you can discover in the world.

How to Have Your Best Vacation Ever

When you think back to all the vacations that you have previously taken, it is likely that some of them brought you much more happiness and enjoyment than others, but have you ever stopped to wonder why? It turns out that there are a variety of factors that contribute to how happy your vacation makes you, and, once you understand exactly what these are, there is absolutely nothing to stop your next vacation from being the best one that you have ever had.

Planning
While spontaneous trips are often fun, a certain level of planning is essential if you want to make the most of your vacation. Not only does planning your vacation in advance allow your excitement to build up over the weeks or months, but, once you are actually there, it takes away some of the decisions that you may have otherwise needed to make on the spot, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy yourself.

Try Something New
For children, a vacation seems to last forever, and that is because of all of the new experiences that their brain takes time to process. The best way to replicate this as an adult is to make sure that you fill your vacation with as many new experiences as you can. Whether this may be trying new foods or trying a new type of activity, all of these new experiences will contribute to making your vacation your best one yet.

Manage Any Work
If you are able to completely take time off from work whilst on vacation, then you should most definitely do so, and this means staying away from your work emails and messages the entire time you are away. If, however, some work whilst on vacation is unavoidable, then you need to be sure to manage your working time properly. Set yourself some limitations, such as responding to emails in the morning but then putting your phone or computer away for the rest of the day.

Have Fun
It goes without saying that fun is absolutely necessary in order to have your best vacation ever. Be sure to make time every day to relax in between all of your vacation adventures, socializing with others and sharing your experiences, whilst reflecting back on the past day. Having fun also means leaving the mundane tasks behind. If you don’t want to worry about having to find a babysitter, arrange for one in advance, or you could even bring a family member along on the promise that they act as a babysitter when needed. If you are renting a vacation house rather than staying at a hotel, it may be worth finding someone to cook and clean whilst you are staying there, so that you won’t need to worry about those things yourself.

Once you have had your best vacation ever, don’t forget to sort through all of your photographs and memorabilia, displaying the ones with the most sentiments behind them. While it may be hard-hitting to immediately get back to your everyday routine, these tips will ensure that every vacation you take will be even better than the last!
