Supermodels Turned Fashion Designers

Supermodels are so immersed in the fashion world, so it only makes sense that many of them decide to strike it out on their own, creating their own clothing lines and collections. From Alessandra Ambrosio to Lily Aldridge, here are a few supermodel fashion designers that are worth taking notice of.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio
A Brazilian supermodel and actress, Alessandra Ambrosio made a name for herself after modelling for Victoria’s Secret, and was the first model chosen to represent the brand’s PINK line. When it comes to her own personal fashion style, Ambrosio has always favored a more bohemian, laid-back vibe, and this is what led her to launch a debut collection for Californian brand Planet Blue. With soft, flowing silhouettes and lush, sensual fabrics, the Ale by Alessandra collection is absolutely perfect for the warm summer months.

Lily Aldridge
Velvet by Graham & Spencer is a fashion brand that was founded in 1997, and focuses on elevated basics that are inspired by the West Coast lifestyle. Lily Aldridge, an American model, has worked for the brand for over ten years now, making it no surprise that they eventually turned to her to create her own capsule collection. Aldridge has now released two of these for the brand, consisting of pieces that are incredibly versatile and wearable, from plaid shirts to sheer knitwear, but all of which feature a unique twist from Aldridge.

Kate Moss

Kate Moss
Kate Moss is a British model whose name has become quite mainstream, as she has been in the industry for several years now. In 2007, Moss designed her very first collection for fashion chain Topshop, and, after the huge success that it experienced, she then went on to design 14 more collections for the company. This then led to the end of her fashion design career for a while, but Moss has now reunited with this much-loved brand, creating a whole new collection for them, which, as was expected, has done extremely well.

Sophie Dahl
Former model, and author, Sophie Dahl has always had a passion for fashion, so creating her own capsule collection was a natural progression for the model. She did this in collaboration with Brora, a British cashmere brand, in 2013, with a collection titled The Lost Weekend. Dahl designed 13 pieces for the label, taking inspiration from gaps that she was experiencing in her own wardrobe, coming up with everything from soft, stunning cashmere cardigans to feminine tea dresses. In order to stay true to her own personal style, the color palette that Dahl chose for the collection is predominantly pale and neutral, but this just means that the items can be worn in so many different ways, and will work with just about every outfit.

Supermodels spend so much time in the fashion industry, so it only makes sense that they end up coming up with several exciting ideas of their own. From the beautiful cashmere pieces by Sophie Dahl to the down-to-earth collection of Lily Aldridge, each of these models have managed to bring an elegance and sophistication to the designs that they have created.

Nails for Fall 2015

With the beginning of a new season we are always faced with an age-old problem, what’s new in fashion and beauty and how can I achieve the look?

Nobody really likes to admit that from the minute the new season’s magazines hit the shelves we find ourselves trawling through the beautiful glossy pages hoping to find some inspiration.

Well, regardless of budget, one of the quickest and easiest ways to spruce yourself up and be bang on trend is to paint your nails.

Now we know some of you will silently scream in terror at the prospect of painting your nails, but trust us you can do it. Whether your nails are long or short, if you follow our few steps below, you will have beautiful nails and be completely ready for the Fall season.

One of the big trends this Fall is the 70’s look. From High Street stores like Topshop and River Island to high end designers like Stella McCartney 70’s boho chic prevails in store.

What better way to complement this look or even just to add a hint of 70’s to your existing wardrobe than with these perfect hues from Ciaté.
Nails for Fall 2015

From the Olivia Palermo Ciaté Fall collection these polishes have rich, deep shades with a high gloss finish which will give you a great pop of color for any outfit. So how do you get the best wear out of these shades? Well just follow these few simple steps and you will be in manicure heaven.

  1. File your nails to your desired shape. It makes no difference if your nails are long or short, rich colors like these love short nails too.
  2. Always apply a base coat if you are painting your nails as color nail polish can leave the nails stained yellow.
  3. Apply two coats of your desired color. Try not to use too much polish on the brush as this will cause the polish to bubble on the nail.
  4. Apply the polish in three strokes. One down the middle of the nail and then one each down either side of the nail.
  5. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying another coat.
  6. To get the best of your manicure apply a high gloss, hard-wearing top coat. Top up this coat of polish every other day to prolong your polish.

We love this Sally Hansen top coat. It is fast drying and tough, we always have it in our manicure kit.

So get yourself down to the mall to find your favorite colors for this season and get painting while we leave you with this little nugget of advice: To prevent damage to your manicure, try not to use your fingernails to pick at things or pry things open and always use the end of a spoon or fork to open cans of soda or tins of food.

Our Top Gold Bikini Picks – OROGOLD Reviews

OROGOLD loves the color gold, and this also applies to gold bikinis, because not only do they complement every skin tone, but they are also a great way to ensure that you stand out from the crowd this summer. From Topshop to Herve Leger, here are some of OROGOLD’s top gold bikini picks to help you get ready for swimsuit season.

Top Gold Bikini Picks

Metallic Gold Bikinis
A metallic gold bikini will have you shimmering like a goddess on the beach, as the sun will practically radiate off your body. OROGOLD loves the metallic triangle bikini from Moschino, with wide straps to ensure that there are no unfortunate accidents if you dive into the water. The elasticated trims mean that the fit is always flawless, and the shade of gold used is truly luxurious. For those who want a metallic bandeau bikini, have a look at the U-bar bandeau bikini top from OndadeMar, which features a 24K gold-plated bar at the centre. For those who want to go metallic and strapless at the same time, Lisa Vogel has a bikini set, which can be purchased at Neiman Marcus, featuring a strapless sweetheart neckline, with low-rise hipster bottoms. For something a little different, have a look at Topshop’s metallic cropped bikini set, which is cut in an extremely flattering way.

Gold Sequinned Bikinis
Another great way to truly sparkle this summer is to opt for a gold sequinned bikini. However, when cut or designed in certain ways, gold sequinned bikinis can often end up looking tacky, but luckily, we have found one that we absolutely love. The Herve Leger Carmella sequin bikini is cut in the brand’s signature bandage style, and is embellished all over with sequins. The wide straps give the bikini a modest feel, which makes the sequins look glamorous rather than cheap. This bikini can be purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue, either in store or online from their website. Those of you who aren’t looking to splash out as much on your swimwear need not worry, as we have also found a fabulous gold sequinned bikini by Blue Life, available on Asos, which still looks glam but has a sportier feel.

Gold Halter Bikini
A halter bikini is flattering on almost every body type, and the fact that it can be so easily adjusted means that it is also much easier to find one that fits perfectly. Here at OROGOLD, we still can’t forget the gold bikini that Rihanna rocked last year, and it is definitely one that has been on our wishlist for this summer. Designed by Charlie by Matthew Zink, the Farrah bikini is sexy and stylish at the same time, and is fully lined for extra comfort.

Gold bikinis are much rarer than other colors, and this is because it takes a certain amount of confidence to pull them off. By choosing a bikini that has been well designed and impeccably crafted, you will ensure that the fit is just right, flattering your body in all the right places.
