Beating Holiday Stress

Many people would say that the holiday season brings with it just as much stress as it does joy, leaving them unable to really enjoy themselves. If you find yourself agreeing with this, read on for some great tips on how to beat that dreaded holiday stress.

Don’t Over-Schedule
You may feel obliged to accept just about every invitation that comes your direction during the holiday season, but over-scheduling is pretty much a guaranteed way to bring on huge amounts of holiday stress. Learning how to say no may seem simple, but it is something that can sometimes take quite a bit of work. However, once you do say no, this will go a long way in reducing the amount of seasonal stress that you experience, as your calendar will not be packed with too many obligations, leaving you with plenty of time for yourself.

Think Before You Spend
The financial pressure that often comes with the holiday season is enough to cause stress to even the most laid back person, but it does not need to be this way. Before you begin spending for the holidays, set yourself a realistic budget that will not leave you dealing with excessive debts in the new year, and make sure that you stick to it. When it comes to gifts, do not forget that non-material presents can often be the most meaningful, from personalized poems to home videos.

Take a Break
When everything starts to seem slightly overwhelming, this is the time to step back and take a short break for 15 minutes or so. Heading outside for some fresh air will do you some good in multiple ways, from the sunlight stimulating the production of serotonin within the body, otherwise known as the feel good hormone, to the motion of walking having a tranquilizing effect on the brain. Once you return to the stressful situation, you will feel much more refreshed and better capable of dealing with it.

Don’t Abandon Healthy Habits
After striving all year to be as healthy as possible, the thought of overindulging during the holiday season can often be quite stressful, as you become fully aware of the guilt that you will soon be facing. To avoid over-eating when it comes to unhealthy snacks at holiday parties, have something healthy to eat before leaving the house, so that you will not be as hungry when you arrive. You can also make your own kitchen as healthy and supportive as possible, by doing everything from removing any sugar-filled treats, which you know you will be eating plenty of when out, to keeping your home alcohol-free and only drinking when you are out socializing, as excessive alcohol is definitely not good for your health.

The holiday season is supposed to be a joyful time, with peace and happiness being promoted. However, the only way that you can really enjoy all that the holidays truly stand for is by ensuring that you are as stress-free as possible, so keep these methods in mind whenever you start to feel overwhelmed.

Celebrity Inspired New Year’s Style

Celebrities have direct access to some of the most talented designers and stylists around, so it only makes sense to turn to them when we need some extra style inspiration. To help you to plan your look for new year’s eve, OROGOLD has put together a few different styles that have been inspired by some of our favorite celebrities.

Kate Moss

Kate Moss
Kate Moss never fails to look glam at every occasion, and she also understands exactly what needs to be worn in order to stand out from the crowd. If you are heading to a party where you know many of the women will be dressed in classic black, OROGOLD suggests taking a page from Kate Moss’ book and going for a sleek all-white number instead. If you want to step away from wearing a dress, Kate Moss also frequently rocks a stylish jumpsuit that, while more practical than a dress, still manages to exude the same amount of sex appeal.

Rihanna

Rihanna
When it comes to sparkly but casual, Rihanna is the celebrity to look to. If a sparkly sequinned dress is not something you feel comfortable wearing, but you still like the idea of the sparkle, channel Rihanna by opting for one of her signature sparkly crop tops. Rihanna usually pairs this with a pair of rolled up boyfriend jeans and some block heels, resulting in a stand-out party look that is still extremely down to earth.

Kate Bosworth
Kate Bosworth loves 60’s style shift dresses, and this is a great look to wear on new year’s. OROGOLD suggests pairing your mini shift dress with some biker boots and tousled hair. A printed shift dress is also a fun option, or you could also opt for some unique accessories to liven your look up. While bare legs always look fantastic with this look, if you are going to be spending time outdoors in the cold, OROGOLD would also suggest wearing a pair of classic black tights.

Kate Beckinsale
Kate Beckinsale has many looks that OROGOLD loves, but there is one hairstyle in particular that we feel would be well-suited to new year’s eve. If you know that you will be spending the majority of the night deep within a crowd or rocking it out on a dance floor, a high pony is a sleek and stylish way to keep your hair neat and tidy. For an added touch of glam, use a curling iron to gently curl the end of your pony, allowing it to flick outwards, giving your look some extra body.

When it comes to dressing up for a special occasion, celebrities are the ideal people to turn to. From Kate Moss’ sleek white gown amongst a sea of little black dresses, to Rihanna’s perfect combination of low-key with sparkle to a new year’s hairstyle that looks glam but is so practical at the same time, these celebrity looks are all easy to borrow from if you need some inspiration for new year’s eve.

New Year’s Party Theme Ideas

New Year's Eve

Hosting your own new year’s eve party is a fantastic way to celebrate the night with your closest friends and family. To make your party more unique, check out some of OROGOLD’s favorite new year’s party┬átheme ideas.

A Black and White Ball
The Black and White Ball held in 1966 by Truman Capote has to be one of the most infamous of them all, and has long since been recognized as the best party of the century. While you may not be in the position to rent out a ballroom at the Plaza, you can still incorporate some of the ideas from a black and white ball into your own party, no matter where you have chosen to host it. From the decorations to the food that you serve, the black and white theme should be consistent throughout all of your planning. In addition to dressing in either black or white, guests can also wear black or white masks, which they remove at midnight to reveal their faces.

Champagne Mixology
Rather than waiting until midnight before popping open the bottles of champagne, OROGOLD suggests hosting a champagne mixology party, where you supply the champagne and the mixers so that your guests can enjoy creating their own champagne-based cocktails throughout the evening. OROGOLD recommends supplying a few tried-and-tested recipes for any guests that don’t feel like experimenting, but do provide a wide variety of mixers for those that want to try out some wilder creations.

A Guilty Pleasures Party
For many, the start of the new year signals the turning over of a new leaf, which makes new year’s eve their last chance to really indulge. OROGOLD suggests treating your guests to a night of decadence with a guilty pleasure themed party. ‘Vice Stations’ can be set up around the room, featuring a variety of different guilty pleasures, from decadent desserts to lush cocktails to a gaming lounge. Choose the stations based on the main interests of yourself and your guests, so that you can be sure that there is a guilty pleasure that everyone will want to indulge in.

Karaoke.

Karaoke Party
Karaoke machines are inexpensive to rent for the night, and a karaoke party is a fun way to get all of your guests involved, belting out your favorite tunes throughout the evening. You could even make it a fancy dress party, with guests dressing up as their favorite music artists. For some extra fun, OROGOLD suggests handing out creative awards through the night, from Best Dance Moves to Most Likely to be Discovered. If you wanted to take the theme even further, you could host an American Idol or X-Factor themed party, complete with a row of judges.

Whether you want something small and intimate or large and extravagant, these new year’s eve party ideas should have you covered. From a high-end black and white ball to a laid-back karaoke party, each of these themes guarantees that you and your guests will have a new year’s celebration that you will never forget.
