All Over Body Moisturizing Routine

Your skin is your largest organ, and not only protects your body from the outside world, but also detoxifies it, giving it a way to release its impurities and toxins. Moisturizing is hugely important when it comes to healthy skin that can function at its optimum level, and the best way to remember to keep your body well moisturized is by forming a routine that you can follow each and every day. While everybody’s skin needs a different level of care, this full body moisturizing routine can easily be adapted to suit your own individual requirements.

In the Shower
The first step to your moisturizing routine should begin in the shower. A body scrub is a great product to use a few times a week, as this will gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it more receptive to any products that you later apply. You should also opt for a moisturizing body gel with which to cleanse your skin, as well as a facial cleanser. Opt for a formula that is hydrating yet gentle, as anything too harsh will only strip your skin of its natural oils.

Body Serums
Body serums are not as common as facial serums, but they work in a similar way, blending into the skin almost immediately and leaving very little residue. Serums are often higher in active ingredients than moisturizers, meaning that they should always be applied first. While a body serum may not be a part of your everyday moisturizing routine, they are a great product to use once in a while, giving your skin an extra boost of moisture.

Moisturizing Body Lotion
After your shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel, but make sure that it is still slightly damp before applying a moisturizing body lotion, as this will trap that extra moisture into your skin. Body butters are also fantastic products to use at this stage, and because they are thicker and greasier than lotions, they are able to moisturize your skin even more. Do not forget to pay attention to all of those areas of your body that are likely often ignored, such as your hands, feet and elbows. Your underarms also deserve some extra attention, as they not only have to deal with constant hair removal, but also the large amounts of dead skin cells that usually accumulate here.

Sunscreen
A moisturizing sunscreen should be a vital part of your skin care routine, and it is the one product that needs to be reapplied throughout the day. While there are many moisturizers out there that already contain SPF, it is always better to use a dedicated sunscreen, applying it to all the parts of your body that are going to be exposed to the sun.

A moisturizing routine should not be complicated, as this will only put you off on those days when you are feeling extra tired or stressed. Develop a routine that works for you and your lifestyle, because, although it may need to be slightly tweaked as your needs change with age, you will be able to follow it for the rest of your life, enjoying healthy and happy skin as a result.
