What to Wear in Mexico

Mexico is an extremely diverse country, and what you will be wearing depends largely on what you plan to be doing. However, there are a few general tips that you can always keep in mind, which is why OROGOLD has put together this handy guide on what to wear in Mexico.

Swimsuit woman

What to Wear to Mexico’s Beaches
It goes without saying that no matter what your Mexico itinerary may be like, at some point or another you will find yourself on one of the country’s many beaches. A swimsuit is essential, as is a light cover up to keep your skin protected from the hot sun. If you are heading to a sandy beach, beach sandals will keep your feet from burning up, although if you are planning to visit a rockier beach with coral reefs, OROGOLD would advise that you wear sea shoes. If you plan to be taking part in water sports, it may be worth bringing your own mask and snorkel if you have one, because even though these are easy to rent, there is nothing quite like having your own mask that fits your face perfectly. You may also want to consider bringing a t-shirt to wear while you are snorkeling, so that you don’t end up with a sunburnt back.

Stylish woman

What to Wear to Mexico’s Colonial Towns
Mexico is full of colonial towns, and most of these experience spring-like climates throughout the year. This means that it can often get chilly in the evenings, so OROGOLD would recommend wearing light layers that you can add or remove when necessary. The colonial towns are also famous for their beautifully cobbled streets, but these can be a nightmare if you are wearing the wrong shoes, so be sure to wear some good walking shoes when you know you will be exploring a certain area. The colonial towns are also home to many religious and indigenous sites, so remember to dress modestly and respectfully when visiting any of these. If you find yourself higher up in elevation, OROGOLD would suggest wearing a hat, as the mountain air can often mask the harshness of the sun’s rays.

Woman in casual clothes

What to Wear to Mexico’s Cities
Once you enter a Mexican city, the clothes around you will start to seem more sophisticated. Mexican cities are extremely cosmopolitan, and this is reflected in the attire that people wear. Casual yet trendy is key for during the days, and, if you are heading for a night on the town, feel free to go all out and completely dress up. Many cities are still quite laid-back, but the outfits worn are still much more stylish than those you will find outside of the city. OROGOLD also suggests keeping a raincoat or an umbrella with you, as you don’t want to be caught by surprise during one of the brief afternoon thunderstorms.

No matter what you may choose to wear in Mexico, OROGOLD reminds you that sunscreen is absolutely essential. With the right outfit, and your skin well protected from the sun, you will be able to make the most of all that this beautifully diverse country has to offer.
